Stuy S&D Update #6: A Fall Full of Forensics and Our Plans

Updated: Jan 20

Dear Speech and Debate families,

Throughout the first semester of the year, our Speech and Debate team has grown to over 250 members. We've only been able to compete and travel at state and national levels because of your support. Thank YOU for everything you've done: judging tournaments, chaperoning trips, and contributing donations.

After trips to Yale, Scarsdale, Ridge, NJ, and various online tournaments, we have an ambitious schedule for the second semester. Please support our Speech and Debate program if you can and consider donating to help us travel, compete, and grow together.

Attending the Barkley Forum (Emory University), the Liberty Bell Classic (University of Pennsylvania), Harvard Invitational, States, and both Nationals requires funding and support. Please help us reach our $20,000 goal for this year! Every small donation and weekend spent judging send more of our teammates across the country and supports more debate rounds for each student.

To give you an inside view into our world, here's what we did coming back from Winter break. We competed at The 79th Chaminade Invitational. Over 80 students and 17 parents and alumni judges showed up to Mineola for one of the largest local tournaments in New York. We took home first place in sweepstakes with many champions, finalists, and half qualifications for the State Tournament.

Scroll below to look at some of our other stand out tournaments from the past year.

We couldn’t compete this year without your help and the support of Dr. Seung Yu and the administration, the Alumni Association, the Parents’ Association, Ms. Dina Ingram, our coaches, and of course, Ms. Sheinman.

We are, as always, incredibly thankful for all of your support. See you next semester!

Best,

The S&D Team
